Monir Shaikh is currently pursuing his PhD degree in London School of Economics. He was born in Bangladesh and completed his masters in economics from the University of Dhaka in 2000 and masters in international development from the International University of Japan in 2008.  


 He joined Bangladesh civil service (administration cadre) in 2003. He served as Assistant Commissioner and Magistrate in the Faridpur district in the period 2003-2006. He also served in the macroeconomic wing of the Ministry of Finance in 2009-2011 in the Bangladesh secretariat at Dhaka. He also participated a number of international and national training on macroeconomics, fiscal economics, time series econometrics, law and administration courses. He also served as education planner in Effective Schools Through Enhanced Education Management (ESTEEM) project, a component of Department for International Development (UK) at Dhaka for around a year and half.


 

He is also a volunteer of International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), London and advisor of a Non Government Organization named Local Environment Development and Agricultural Research Society (LEDARS) working for Bangladesh. He is a member of European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, Royal Geographical Society and Bangladesh Economic Association. Currently, he is also a tutor in the economics department of School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of University of London.
